Questions
How is the percentage of the world worked out?
It's the share of the 201 countries HejMap lists (UN members plus a few widely recognised states) that you've marked. Territories such as Greenland or Puerto Rico can be coloured in too, but they're counted separately.
Where is my map saved?
In the link itself. Everything after the # in the address describes your map, and it never reaches our servers. Copy the link to keep your map or share it; anyone who opens it sees exactly what you made.
Do I need an account?
No. Making, sharing and downloading maps is free and needs no sign-up.
How do I add very small countries?
Small countries such as Monaco, Malta or Singapore are shown as dots you can click, and you can type any country into the search box to add it.
Can I show country names or flags?
Yes. Turn on names, flags or both under "On coloured countries". They appear on the countries you have coloured, and are left out where they would overlap; zoom in to see more of them.
Why does my map change shape?
The map fills the space on your screen: wide on a computer, taller on a phone. Downloads keep the shape you see, so a phone gives you an image that suits social posts. The same link always shows the same place, whatever the shape.
Can I zoom into one region?
Yes. Use the + and − buttons, pinch on a phone, or hold Ctrl (⌘ on a Mac) and scroll. Drag to move around. The zoom and position are saved in the link too.
